Compassion in Action

We managed to raise $25 by selling off two of Khenpo's first edition books, but we're still $200 away from having the money we need to keep the utilities turned on.

For more than 27 years, Khenpo Gurudas Sunyatananda has personally generated the income needed to support 54 monk and nuns, maintaining the six monastic houses, and providing food and money for our various outreach programs, without ever asking for donations or financial assistance.

In 2007, Parkinson's-related complications caused an accident, which shattered our beloved Lama's arm, making it impossible to ply his craft as a top hairdesigner and graphic artist any longer. No longer able to work, the past two years have resulted in many weeks in which Khenpo-la could only afford one meal every other (or every third) day.

We owe it to our teacher, as prescribed by our tradition and mandated by compassion, to do whatever we can to support him and ensure that his teaching continues to reach tens of thousands of students worldwide.

Khenpo Gurudas and his contemplative companion, Jampal Choden are now living in a very modest, low-cost hermitage, in historic Hummelstown, Pennsylvania.

We need your help to cover $275 per week for rent, utilities and one meal per day for the two of them. Right now, we know that there is no food in the hermitage... and a $255 final electric bill from the previous tenement our Teacher was forced to live in for two years.

Our immediate goal is to generate $275 for this week's expenses.
